The field has pretty much been covered it seems - massage is good in general but I definitely recommend chiropractic care! My migranes are hormonal in source, but I used to get at least 3 non migrane headaches a week. Now I have only my monthly migrane to look forward to and even those occasionally skip (I've been seeing a chiropractor for 4 years now)

Peppermint, Lavender, Feverfew, Licorice are all good (I have also had catnip recommended to me, brewed as a tea. Hey, it's a mint!)

A woman I worked for has two products I'll recommend - if you don't buy from her perhaps you could find a local/make your own versions. The first is Headache Ease, it's a combination of peppermint, lavender, and sweet marjoram essential oils mixed in a base of sweet almond oil and applied with a roll top (though in truly desperate times I have been known to opt for a dark room and a tissue with a few drops of peppermint essential oil on it draped over my nose). Apply to the temples, under the nose and across the back of the neck. The other is her own concoction called Dragon Balm (similarish to Tiger Balm) - I do not know all of the ingredients, but she starts by melting menthol crystals and then adds essential oil of peppermint and clove (that's where my knowledge of the ingredients list ends) - the point is that the menthol crystals are SUPER STRONG. The balm is meant to be like icy hot and relax muscles, SO - massage into the shoulders and back of the neck where it will a) relax muscles and relieve some of the headache tension b) be nice and refreshingly cool and c) is FULL OF PEPPERMINT (a dab under the nose is great too, as long as it is a small dab otherwise the menthol will burn!) - It wont make the migrane go away, but it will HELP.

On the medication side, I've never tried Excedrin (why, I don't know), but usually a double dosage of Advil works - be careful for young ones with that though...

I had blackout from pain migraines in middle and high school --and rarely now. I had to change my diet, not nitrates, caffeine, low sodium, no MSG, Chinese, Italian, breakfast meats form pigs etc. But also, I was given MLT Tabs (pronounced Melty tabs). No kidding they saved my life! they work SOOOO fast. After a few years I learned that I could have some bacon if is did nothing else, or some chocolate if I followed the rest of the diet, and low sodium no MSG Chinese.

As a gal who used to get migraines I can only share what worked for me. Mine were stress but I a guessing also hormonal and I would be bedridden for like 3 days a week on average.

I got some good chiropractic care. There are good DC’s and not so good ones. I found one that said when I treat you, you will be done. There will be no reason to come back every week or month.

I also did an elimination diet and found out that some foods I ate really didn’t like me and caused headaches.

Last but not least I would say a massage would be good. Helps move the toxins along and helps release stress.

Peppermint tea is still great for migraines, at least for me, and they help with the tummy issues that come with the pain too :)

Hmm, I don't know of anything to stop a migraine once it's started. I used to get them, but I had an underlying cause: hypertension. Tell her to get him checked out with a comprehensive exam to make sure there are no conditions that could be causing the migraines.

as for the treatments from the established medical community - well, let me tell ya, DHE sucks. It makes you feel like your face is going to come off your skull. It's painful and didn't work for mine.

I hope he gets better quickly, and I wish I could have been more helpful.

A spoon full of apple cider vinegar has been recommended to me. I haven't had a chance to try it (give me a couple of weeks the way the weather here in Northern Nevada has been lately), but my nephews grandmother swears by it.

Feverfew is a known treatment for migraines.

Ice packs and meditation are highly recommended. There are acupressure points too - I usually find my own by feeling above my ears until I find sore spots, but there are probably websites with better explanations.

I also find heating pads to help (and even better, to pair heat on the shoulders with ice on the forehead, but then my migraines cause tension headaches, and my tension headaches trigger migraines....)

Excedrine is good for migraine headaches; it is just aspirin, tylenol, and caffeine. Caffeine is something to use carefully though, as it can also trigger migraines (as can caffeine withdrawls).

Finally, have his doctors recommended something like Imitrex? I didn't get a lot of benefit from it, but some people do. It's not natural, but migraines are pretty brutal.

Thanks for bring this up! This has been chapping my hide for years now. Our family has a day of mourning for the loss of the Old Ways in Celtic lands and our lack of knowledge today resulting from that loss. We're Scots and aren't much for the stereotypical portrayal of the Celtic as drunken partyers out to start a fight or as little men dressed in green or plaid with red hair carrying shillelaghs. Nor do I appreciate secular St Pat's celebrations that are usually a thinly veiled excuse for American adults to imbibe too much. Neither are we trying to start a debate about celebrating St. Pat's just that we don't want our Pagan children to consider celebrating the domination of one religion/culture over another or celebrating to the point of drunken excess as a normal and acceptable thing to do. Sure, they'll figure out how acceptable society thinks it is to drink later but while they are at home I get to brainwash them all I want.

I am new to Wiccan and apparently blogging too. I tried to leave a comment but...if it pops up...? Any who~~ I am having a difficult time with my child's high school not about religion but ethics in general. I have made a formal complaint and want a fair resolution although i am wondering if anyone has any suggestions regarding a peaceful Wiccan way of going about dealing with negative unethical people in the world (that btw claim to be christians) without anger and fighting my way to a person (if they exist) that may or may not help the situation. I am new to your blog...thank you for sharing. I searched for something somewhat similar to my issue with public schools...I am newly Wiccan but have always felt a pull from my soul toward Wicca. I have an issue with my child's high school and i am not sure how I should handle it. What are your views regarding "submitting formal complaints" & how to "fight" for what is fair? It has nothing to do with religion although much to do with ethics. My worldly first reaction is to make a complaint and follow it all the way to the top rather or not the staff member is reprimanded. Although i am wondering if there are suggestions on how to deal with it on a more spiritual level, a Wiccan way in dealing with difficult people reducing stress and diminishing anger? But aren't they doing away with Art and Music in schools...??? Yet they will make room for THIS?

Ida Know...education is great on all levels but I think a theological diversity class would be quite interesting. But that will happen just as soon as we see black female Jewish lesbian Pope.
